Today India has started to surround China in the same way which China used against India a decade ago. China has planned it’s a string of Pearls strategy to surround India by developing its naval bases around the Indian Ocean. China trapped various countries by their loans and captured their land as repayment. Today India has used the same strategy and surrounded China from all four sides. India has also thrown China from various countries by helping them economically and also by providing them with military support. India has made China the rat of the garbage which runs here and there for the food. India has turned his friends into enemies and now India will break the Chinese dream of becoming King of the World.

Below is the list of countries in which India has established its military airbases.

Bhutan

Bhutan

Every Indian knows the incident of Doklam standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in 2017. Do you ever know how the Indian Army quickly reacted and sent their troops to Bhutan border? And also why Bhutan only called India for her help? It is because of IMTRAT. India and Bhutan are the closest friends since their existence. India is also responsible for Bhutan safety and security from any internal and external threat.

India has established a military training team in Bhutan since 1962. Its name is IMTRAT-Indian military training team. Their main purpose is to train the Royal Bhutan Army and Royal bodyguard of Bhutan. It is the first foreign base where the Indian Army has kept its foot. Its headquarters is at Haa Dzong in western Bhutan. There are also several small training camps of the Indian Army in Bhutan whose locations are kept secret. Hence there is a fully operational Indian Military base in Bhutan.

Oman

Oman

As you know that Somalian pirates had terrorized the Indian Ocean for so many decades and there is no powerful country in the Indian Ocean region to counter their move. Almost 60% of the World Trade is operated through this region so the world looked India for their help. There are almost four bases of Indian military in Oman three are never bases and another one is airbase.

There is a listening station of the Indian Navy at Ras-al-Hadd and a Naval base at Muscat where the Indian Navy has berthing rights. There is also a naval base at Daqm which is located at another part of Oman. These three naval assets provide better control to the Indian Navy to guard the Indian Ocean. Further, there is also an airbase operated by Indian Air Force which is also in Daqm to support their all naval fleet. So we can say that India has a fully operational Indian military base in Oman.

Tajikistan

Tajikistan

During the 90s when the Taliban Afghan war was at its peak then there was the only destruction in the whole of Afghanistan. So many Afghan nationals died due to Taliban attack. In that situation, India built an airbase in Tajikistan to provide support to the Afghan government against the Taliban. India helped the Northern Alliance of the Afghan army and provided them Air and Arm support from this airbase. India previously don’t have any intention to have an airbase in Tajikistan but to help its old friend Afghanistan India decided to crack a deal with Tajikistan to provide all supports to Afghanistan.

Today also this airbase is operated by India to maintain a continuous supply of various commercial Medical and Logistic Aid to Afghanistan. Now a day this strategic location is important to counter the Chinese Army from their western borders. It will be an advantageous position during the war as this Airbase is located between mountains. So it’s not easy to find it out and destroy it. It’s also not confirmed by the Indian army and Air force that how many troops and planes are deployed in that Airbase. So India operates a fully operational Indian Military base in Tajikistan.

Singapore

Singapore

As we know that China’s 70% of the trade is done through Strait of Malacca so it needed a country that could help china to dock, refuel and provide logistic support. Singapore is located at a strategic location in Strait of Malacca so China pressurized this tiny nation to sign a bilateral agreement to get access to its Changi naval base. For decades the Chinese Navy has already started increasing their presence in Singapore and the Indian Ocean but after signing this deal they may get a further boost.

Singapore which is allay of India and knows the Chinese expansionism strategy requested India to join this deal. Singapore signed a naval cooperation agreement with both India and China on 29 November 2017. Singapore played well with china as every move of the Chinese navy will be restricted by the presence of the Indian navy in the Changi naval base. This agreement of naval cooperation by India and Singapore also helped India to establish Indian Military presence in the Chinese trade route. This Naval base of Singapore serves as an Indian Naval base in Singapore.

Seychelles

Seychelles

To counter the Chinese plan of the string of pearls India has added Assumption island of Seychelles into its necklace of the diamond plan. Assumption Island is located at 1100 kilometer south-west of the main island of Mahe, Seychelles. India has developed a coast surveillance radar system to counter the movement of Chinese cargo ships and the Chinese Navy.

Once India wanted to develop this base to track the movement of pirate ships and protect the cargo ships from their attack but the Chinese expansionism has forced India to develop this base to counter the Chinese Navy. We can say that India operates a fully operational Indian Military base in Seychelles.

Madagascar

Madagascar

Indian Navy has set up a monetary station in Northern Madagascar in 2007. It was set up to help Madagascar Navy to surveillance the coastal area of Madagascar. Since Madagascar military is not strong enough to counter the foreign invaders into their territory so Indian Navy came forward to set up their own surveillance base which may be further developed into a full Naval base to protect Madagascar and its integrity. There is also a small unit of the Indian Army present on this surveillance station.

Recently in January 2020 Indian Navy has launched operation Vanilla for support of Madagascar which was destroyed by natural disaster. This surveillance station acted as a base from where relief materials were deployed for Madagasy citizens. So it’s certain that India has a well developed Indian Military base in Madagascar.

Mauritius

Mauritius

Indian Navy has developed a surveillance base on Agalega island of Mauritius where they have deployed a coastal surveillance radar system. This Naval surveillance post-development was agreed upon and signed in 2015. This post will be helpful in creating an Indian necklace of the diamond plan to counter Chinese movement in the Indian Ocean.

In 2018 Indian military decided to develop a runway on this Island to develop it into a fully operational military base. Now, this island serves as an Indian military base in Mauritius.

Below is the list of countries in which India has established its Bases only for economic and scientific purposes.

Iran

Iran

In 2016 India has signed a deal to develop Iran Chabahar port to counter Gwadar port of China and Pakistan. Since Iran and Afghanistan is a good friend of India so India decided to also improve its military relationship with these countries. The Chabahar port may also prove to be a naval base where the presence of the Indian Navy will increase the tension of the Chinese and Pakistani military.

Back in 2018 Iran government has already permitted Indian Navy to dock their ships and submarines but now the rising tensions between India and Iran due to US sanctions and Chinese investment in Iran may result in the loss of this port from India. So in future India may have a fully operational Indian naval base in Iran.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka

As everyone knows that Sri Lanka had to lease its M.R Port, Hambantota to China due to large Chinese investment in its country and Sri Lanka’s inability to pay back. Sri Lanka has to give its port to a 99-year lease to China. This increased tension of India because China came so close to India. This deal between China and Sri Lanka was done in June 2018 in Mahindra Rajapaksa government. Just after one month in July 2018 India also played a very big game by purchasing Sri Lankan Airbase in Hambantota. Sri Lanka sold this airbase because it was so empty that the Sri Lankan government could not recover even a small sum of money. But this airbase proved to be a game-changer for India.

Now India can keep an eye on the Chinese Navy and can even use this Airbase to land their fighter craft if any threat from China is made. In future India may have a fully operational Indian Airbase in Sri Lanka.

Maldives

Maldives

The Maldives was a great friend with India for so many decades but during the Government of former President Abdullah Yameen, China successfully debt trapped the Maldives. All Indian construction and development projects were handed over to do Chinese contractors. Chinese development and construction program in the Maldives proved to be a disaster for the Maldives as now they have to pay back a very big sum to Chinese banks.

Like Sri Lanka Maldive’s inability to repayment Chinese loans forces them to give their ports in China’s hand. But after the fall of the government of Abdullah Yameen, the new government again established a good relationship with India and it started to force back China.

Now by the help of India, they are slowly repaying the Chinese loan. India has restarted all its development and construction projects in the Maldives. Maldives have signed a military agreement with the U.S. by the help of India. Now India and U.S both can use Maldives sports as their naval base. In coming years India can develop a good Indian military and Naval base in the Maldives.

Norway & Sweden

Norway & Sweden

India had inaugurated Himadri- its first Research Station in Svalbard, Norway which is located 1200 km from the North Pole. India, Russia and Norway signed a joint treaty of energy cooperation in 2007. Later in July 2008, India began operating its only Scientific Research Station.

Later in January 2020, India signed a similar agreement with Sweden. Maybe in the future India have to also call their Naval support as well as its Army hence converting the Himadri station into a will operational Indian Military base in Norway. In future India can also develop an Indian Military base in Sweden.

Myanmar

Myanmar

In October 2020 India has also signed MOUs with the Myanmar military. India has given its t-72 tanks, submarines, and other military equipment like guns and bulletproof jackets to Myanmar defence forces. India has started developing a good military relationship with Myanmar. India has developed Kaladan project in Myanmar to link its Mizoram state with Kolkata port through Myanmar. With this project, India can also dock its naval ships in Myanmar.

In October 2020 Myanmar state counselor has visited India for the inauguration of Kaladan Port. Just after that Indian Army chief also visited Myanmar to sign various defence pacts with Myanmar Army. With these defence pacts, India got a license to petrol not only its own coastal areas but also the Myanmar coastal regions which increased threat to China. Currently, India is building a road to connect India to Thailand through Myanmar.

In a coming couple of years, India is going to develop an Indian Naval base in Myanmar. There are also chances that the Indian Army can develop an Indian Military base in Myanmar for helping the Myanmar Army to deal with counter-terrorism in their country.

Below is the list of countries in which India will develop future military or naval bases

Afghanistan

Afghanistan

As everyone knows that the U.S is going out of Afghanistan so they wanted a peace deal between the Taliban and Afghanistan government. The U.S also doesn’t want to leave Afghanistan on the verge of Pakistan terror. So U.S.A requested the Indian government to take over their bases when they leave. A visit of Afghan diplomats in February 2020 also aimed to convince India for their troop’s deployment after U.S departure. The Indian government has already helped its oldest friend by providing logistic and arms support from Tajikistan airbase. India has also involved in building the Afghan economy for decades.

A survey done on the Afghan nationals showed that Afghan people hate Pakistan, Russia, and even U.S presence in their country. Their basic need was only fulfilled by India and they appreciate the help they get from India. A common Afghani civilian loves India and they don’t mind the presence of Indian troops on their land. A recent visit from Afghan officials in October 2020 also shows the Afghan need for Indian support. In the coming years, India will use the US bases as an Indian Military base in Afghanistan.

Russia

Russia

In 2013 Russia has also granted India the status of an observer in the Arctic Region. As you know more than 60% of the Arctic Region belongs to Russia but due to lack of foreign reserve and investment Russia cannot fully explore and exploit the abundant resources of this region. On the other hand, the European Union along with the U.S has started its exploration in this region.

So due to fear of losing its position in the region Russia needed a partner that can invest and explore this area. China with a big economy was the first choice for Russia so they welcomed Chinese investment but due to Chinese expansionism and they also invited India to balance the power. Since India is the oldest and biggest allay of Russia so India was invited to counter China if they try to overthrow Russia from this region.

From a few months, there are lots of tensions rising between China and Russia. China has been copying Russian technology to build its and Missiles for decades. But now Russia is not in a mood to give up China when it claimed the Russian territory. China claimed the Russian port city Vladivostok so that it could operate its Arctic mission smoothly.

Now Russia is willing to throw China from this project and invite India to even build its naval base to counter any other Chinese threat. India and Russia are going to sign Agreement on Reciprocal Logistics Support-ARLS soon. So Vladivostok may act as either Indian Naval base in Russia for a fully operational Indian Military base in Russia.

Thailand

Thailand

There are several other countries in which India might make its presence in the future. As China has been thrown out from Thailand’s Kra canal project India, Australia, and the U.S have shown their interest to develop Kra canal jointly. If this offer is accepted by Thailand then there will be certainly the presence of Indian Navy on the coast of Thailand. If India is involved in this project then China will have no other option except to surrender in front of the Indian military.

India is also building a road network- highway which will connect India, Myanmar, and Thailand. This highway will help India to expand its trade and military buildup in these countries. This construction and economic project in Thailand main give India the chance to develop an Indian Military base in Thailand.

Vietnam

Vietnam

Recently due to large-scale incursion of the Chinese Navy into Vietnam territorial sea has increased the tensions between Vietnam and China. China and Vietnam have already bad relations since the Vietnam War which was also resulted in a very big defeat for the Chinese army.

Now Vietnam has shown its interest in purchasing the world’s fastest cruise missile BrahMos from India and has also invited India to the South China Sea for extracting the natural resources. If India will accept this offer then Indian Navy and Indian Army will be able to dock on the coast of Vietnam and even they can develop their own Naval base. Now there is a clear way for the Indian Naval base in Vietnam.

Mongolia

Mongolia

India has also signed a military deal with Mongolia for supporting its Army. The Chinese army has always violated Mongolian territory just like it has violated territories of all its neighbors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mongolia in May 2015 proved to be a major tour. India and Mongolia also conducted a military exercise in 2017. And now in the growing tension between India and China, Mongolia has welcomed the QUAD- which is the group of countries standing against China. To help Mongolia India may decide to develop an Indian Military base in Mongolia.

Other Countries

indian overseas military bases

Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan have also supported India after the Galwan valley incident in Laddakh. Due to this incident, 20 Indian soldiers along with 45 to 55 Chinese soldiers were dead in hand to hand combat. Due to this incident, China has lost its impact in all the countries and India has Rose to a super military power which shown China the mirror of truth. So in the future, there are chances of Indian Military bases in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

Maybe in the future India may get support from more countries in the Indian Ocean and completely destroy China. Maybe in the future India would have lots of naval bases across all the countries of the Indian Ocean. There are lots of hope, but surely, India will always be the king of the Indian Ocean. The Chinese can never become the Lion of the Indian Ocean. They will always be rats if they try to come close to the Indian Ocean region.
